Today, its Day 5! I am not fasting, but my mom is, and i am also getting to enjoy this lovely spreads that i make for her..
People fast in different styles as per their preference, some fully avoid the grains and pulses and eat only fruits and specific flours. Though, my mother follows a satvik diet as we feel it is the best choice.
I was feeling lazy, so dint make anything special today.. Ofcourse, the reason behind the simple spread was also that from past 2 days mom was feeling that the food was on the heavy side.. So, this day was pretty simple with no much on the meal but with a starter, I hope you like it. Do drop in your comments!
What’s in there?
Mix Dal, Masala Alu Beans, Rice, Roti, Sabudana Vada(Starter) with Green Chutney, Potato Chips and Fryums and Malai Pedas
Its already day 4, and as was planned “this was a gulab jamun day” 😀 Many yum dishes today, the amazing looking salad, and that matar panner! Matar panner indeed tasted like any curry served in a restaurant. Dal ensured the simplicity and the completeness of the platter.
Here’s what was in there:
Dal, Matar Paneer, Sade ko alu(marinated slow-roasted potatoes), Lemon Rice, Mini Parota, Chapati, Salad, Khichiya, Gulab Jamuns!!!
we hindu’s celebrate it with loads of fun and enthusiasm.. People enjoy Garba and Dandiya.. And ofcourse the food related, we do fast for 9 days! Now the fast varies from people to people, some dont eat/drink anything except water. Some eat only fruits and falafel(vrat snacks). Some eat once a day, some twice!
Here, in this post, I’ll update the spread’s i and my mom will make it for celebrating Navratri! Satvik food, is easy to make, and is divine!
Whats in there!
Alu Sabzi, Dal, Jeera Rice, Roti, Tomato Pachadi, Bhindi, Badam Halwa, Yogurt, Papad, and Water(Yeah :P)!
Fasting is an important part of our lives. It not only cleanses us from the inside but also maintains a spiritual surrounding around us. But, as a kid to me what fantasized about being on a vrat/fast was having “Phool makhane” 😀
If you worry where the hell are you going to find phool makhane in the market, there are groceries which do stock them. Different names in different regions. Makhane is the common one:)
This is something which is a must when you are fasting. And, during Navratri it is always better to stock the supplies for all the days cause you never know what snack you would like (this one is going to be a savior for all days)
Just two ingredients, and makhane are ready 🙂
